First of all, if you've never heard about digital gardening or want to read my personal take on it, I highly recommend you read the sections "What is digital gardening?" and "And why am I starting my own?".
But for the ones in a hurry, here's a quick quick guide and starting point to navigating this site!
I talk mainly about sociology, art history, creativity (and creative thinking), video game development, language learning, cooking and nutrition, poetry, zine making, but also a bunch of other things.
Below are some recent personal projects on which I've worked:
- Hyakumanben Diaries
- Cosmic Party: The TTRPG
- Love at the Cultural Crossroad: Romance for English-Speaking Young Women in Modern Japan
In In Progress, you can take a look at some things the never-ending list of notes I'm currently growing.
If you want to learn more about the method behind the website, visit my Website Guide!
How can I link Julia Cameron's philosophy in The Artist's Way with my practice of digital gardening into a creative routine?
- Human purpose is to create. God is a god of creation.
Your channel is so inspiring. I'm at the beginning of my creative journey, I've avoided being creative and writing for most of my life for fear of not being interesting enough, but I'm now trying to become more interested and to unblock my creativity, and I aspire to be like you one day.
I'd like to get started publishing on substack and I'd like help defining my identity and the content of my newsletter. My website is call Wet Vermilion Crowd of Things from a poem I wrote as a teenager. It's supposed to symbolise the tide pools full of interesting creatures which represent all the thoughts and ideas and concepts I like to explore in my blog/digital garden. I started digital gardening because I liked the indie web and the idea that one could grow a second brain. My blog is extremely personal and I like to talk about sociology, zine making, creativity, art history, language learning, poetry, philosophy, politics… Lately I've had a few projects of writing essay zines about migration from a sociological perspective, epistemology and everything that inspires me. I like to write mostly non-fiction and academic texts, but I love the creative freedom and the DIY, self-publishing ethos of zine making. I'm obessed with the concept of creativity as broad creative thinking, beyond just the practice of art. I've been reading the Artist's Way to unlock my inner writer and I listen to Riot Grrrl music. I like quality pieces of art which can inspire some reflection in us and I love positionality and other feminist and decolonialist thinking. I've been reading on topics such as the dangers of speaking for others (especially the oppressed and silenced voices of this world) and the difference between ally-ship and advocacy. But overall I like being more artistic and not too analytical since It's not my forte, though I try to improve and would like to improve in the future.
Honestly as little as possible at the moment since I don't have a job (student) so probably only 1 intake session, but I'd like to continue coaching in 6 months when I do.
Hi Rachel! I'm Garance, and this is me just testing the waters to see if your coaching would be right for me and if it would be a worthy investment for me as a student who's a bit broke :)) I'd like to get started publishing on substack and I'd like help defining my identity and the content of my newsletter. I'm just so lost in all of my scattered interests and I don't know where to focus my attention, so I'd like your help with refining the themes and the tone of my writing. Here's a bit about me: Two weeks ago, I had a bit of an existential crisis and I realised that I'd been shutting down my dreams of being a creative (I see creativity as very broad, like any original thinking/writing is creative to me) and a thinker. I dove head-first into the hobby of digital gardening, which is essentially a non-linear blog, where content grows organically like living, evolving knowledge garden rather than a fixed, finished product and where you can connect personal ideas from all disciplines. I like to talk about sociology, zine making, creativity, language learning, poetry, philosophy… Lately I've had as a project to make zines about migration from a sociological perspective, epistemology and other stuff that inspires me. I like to write non-fiction and academic texts, but I love the hands-on design activity and the DIY, self-publishing ethos that comes with zine-making. I'm obsessed with the concept of creativity as broad creative thinking, beyond just the practice of art. If you'd like to check out my blog, it's over at wet-vermilion-crowd.com. The name is from a poem I wrote when I was younger. It's pretty empty so far as I've started like a week ago. But yes, the main thing I'd like to address is that I feel like my interests are all over the place and I have no idea who my audience is. I found you on youtube on the substack video that blew up and I instantly clicked with the themes you talk about in your writing, and discovered what writing coaching is through your vlog earlier and just spent the afternoon shaking with excitement. I'm a very passionate and impulsive person, so it might be better for me to keep thinking this financial decision over and come back to you once I'm more financially and mentally stable, but I wanted to have a clearer idea of what we would be able to work on together to get it out of my head. I'm also not a native english speaker but my bachelor's program was in English so I like to think I'm pretty proficient despite the occasional mistake or confusion. If you think I should focus on grammar mastery as a first step, do let me know. Sorry for the ramblings, I hope that helped you figure out what I'm looking for.
